Virus Protection Guidelines
Modern viruses are so well constructed that if they get into your computer it is nearly impossible to get them out. Like a termite infested house there is no way to know it is completely gone unless you rebuild your computer.
Protecting your computer from viruses is simple, just follow these easy guidelines
- Avoid installing free utilities from unfamiliar web sites (such as toolbars, stock tickers, weather tickers)
- Avoid opening attachments from unexpected e-mail even from people you know
- Never click on unexpected pop-ups that appear when you are surfing the Internet
- Follow security-tech-reviews.com's Security Basics
- Immediately discontinue browsing a web site that is continously generating unwanted pop-ups
- Avoid using file sharing software such as Limewire or Kazaa
- Give visitors these guidelines when borrowing your computer! (especially teenagers!)
Before you buy antivirus things to consider
If you plan to protect multiple computers, some antivirus vendors charge less for additional computers.
Many vendors are offering free anti-virus. Malware is a bigger threat and harder to keep up with. If you are going to pay for software we recommend you pay for strong anti-malware first.
Please refer to our 2008 Anti-virus Software Review for our anti-virus software recommendations.
No excuses! Too cheap?, looking for a cheaper option? For home use, we recommend AVG Free Edition.
YOUR actions alone can go a long way toward preventing virus infections. These preventative steps along with anti-virus software can significantly reduce your risks. Viruses should be a thing of the past since the online fraudsters have moved to more sophisticated schemes such as phishing and spyware.
