How to turn on windows firewall
Note: Before completing these steps please make sure your computer's software is completely up to date by following instructions here to get up to date first.
There are better firewalls however the windows
firewall provides good protection with the least effort. This firewall is improved in Windows Vista
by blocking outbound connections. XP only blocks inbound. Outbound blocking inhibits many types of malware.

Enabling firewall for Windows XP
Step 1: Click Start > Settings > Control Panel
Step 2: Click Security Center

Step 2 (Alternate Screen) : On the screen shown below click Security Center

Step 3: This screen shows the status of your windows firewall, if it is marked off as shown below then click on the Recommendations button

Step 4: Click enable now


Step 5: Status should change to "ON" as shown below, you are done!

Enable firewall on Windows Vista
Step 1: Click Start > Control Panel
Step 2: Click Security Center

Step 2 (Alternate Screen) : On the screen shown below click Security Center

Step 3: This screen shows the status of your windows firewall, if it is marked off as shown below then click on the Turn on now button, then click "Continue" on the pop-up

Step 5: Status should change to "ON" as shown below, you are done!
